Comparative Essay

Comparison of Coma and Toxin By Robin Cook

Robin Cook is an author of medical thrillers who writes about what catastrophes could happen in the medical field.  He is a doctor in real life so he writes from experience and knowledge.  Toxin is about the meat supply and Coma is about putting people in a coma to harvest their organs.  Both medical thrillers keep the reader in suspense and fearful of their own health.

Cook writes in a simple style in all of his books.  They are easy to read and are usually in the third person omniscient point of view.  The characters develop throughout the story but mostly through actions rather than dialogue.  Cook does not use a lot of simile or metaphor in his novels but expresses his ideas through actions of his characters and simple dialogue.  He builds suspense by giving the reader a small amount of information and lets the reader guess what might happen next.  This makes very suspenseful reading.

Cook writes about what he knows which is medicine and what could go wrong in the medical world.  He writes in a way that creates suspense and makes the reader want more and to find out what is going on.
